Q Guild members enjoy an action packed day at Low Green Farm!

All visitors were treated to a factory tour as well as the option to view the slaughter process either live or virtually. Presentations from Steve Powdrill and Mike Whittermore from EBLEX gave the visiting butchers an insight what farmers look for in livestock they are breeding for the meat industry as well as advice on how to maximise profits from various cuts of meat.

A delicious breakfast and lunch menu was designed and cooked by celebrity chef Jonathon Davies with some tasty bacon provided by Lishmans butchers of Ilkley. Members were also treated to a cooking demonstration from Jonathon who used a variety of cuts and spices to get the taste buds going.

The event was a great opportunity for the Penny’s team to explain – Quest for Best- The Meat Crusade – to members. The campaign aims to get the great British public cooking meat from quality butchers by educating them about where their meat comes from and how it is reared. Work has already begun on the campaign’s cook book which is due to be published in 2012.
